Allrounder Govind Poddar will lead a 15-member Odisha men team in their Ranji Trophy opening Group-B league match to be played against Vidarbha at Vizag from October 6 to 9, 2016. This was announced by Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Asirbad Behera today. Pace ace Basant Mohanty has been named as the vice-captain of the team.
Opening batsmen Sandip Pattnaik, Abinash Saha, middle-order batsman Subhranshu Senapati and off-spinner Rashmi Ranjan Sahu have been included in the senior men team as new faces. Among the players who represented the state in Ranji Trophy last year, Natraj Behera, Girija Rout, Arabinda Singh, Abhilash Mallick, P Roshan Kumar Rao, Subhrajit Sahoo, Rajesh Dhuper, Jayanta Behera, Alok Mangaraj and Amit Das have not been in included in the team this time. Haladhar Das has been chosen as the only wicket-keeper for the opening match.
The OCA secretary also announced state teams for Senior Women Group-B One-Day League, scheduled to be hosted by OCA at Cuttack from Oct 1-10, 2016 and Vinoo Mankad Trophy U-19 East Zone League, scheduled to be held at Dhanbad from October 2 to 10, 2016. Madhusmita Behera and Saurabh Rawat were named captain of the Senior Women and U-19 Boys teams respectively.
Senior Women Group-B One-Day League, involving Odisha, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan will take place at Sunshine Ground and Nimpur Ground in Cutttack. Odisha will play their opening match against on October 1. Odisha U-19 boys will start their Vinoo Mankad Trophy East Zone League campaign against Tripura on October 2.
